Dr. Daryanian has 31 years of energy consulting experience. He joined GE Energy Consulting in 2010, focusing on Power Economics (electricity market modeling, asset valuation, and renewable integration studies), and Smart Power (smart grid, distributed energy resources, and microgrids). Completed projects include: Project manager of the evaluation of the proposed Alberta-British Columbia Intertie for Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO); Co-managing 4 NY Stage 2 microgrid engineering design and financial evaluation projects; managing Natural Resource Canada’s (NRCan) RECSI project evaluating 20 future G&T projects, performing study to recommend enhancements to Malaysia’s competitive wholesale electricity market, managing National Grid’s Potsdam Community Resilient Microgrid NY REV Demonstration Project, co-managing 10 NYSERDA NY Prize Stage 1 microgrid feasibility studies; managing CanWEA’s Pan-Canadian Wind Integration Study (PCWIS) and PJM’s Renewable Integration Study (PRIS); reviewing smart grid best practices for China Electric Energy Research Institute (CEPRI). In the early 1990’s, he performed one of the earliest experiments in remote-control scheduling of energy storage under day-ahead prices, for NYSERDA and EPRI. Dr. Daryanian also teaches the annually offered GE Power Systems & Energy Course (PSEC): Future Grid - Distributed Energy Resources, Microgrids, Energy Storage Systems, Demand Response and Dynamic Pricing, and E-Mobility. Prior to GE, Dr. Daryanian worked at R. W. Beck (now, Leidos/SAIC), PA Consulting Group, PHB Hagler Bailly, and Tabors Caramanis & Associates. In the mid-1990’s, he was a resident USAID advisor in Moscow, Russia (advising on the development of the electricity wholesale market in Russia), and worked as a USAID advisor in Ukraine, advising on development of an electricity market supervisory office in Ukraine’s National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC).
