I have been a wound care nurse since 2007. I have practiced in Long Term Acute Care, Skilled Nursing, and Acute Care. Practicing in a small rural acute care setting has presented numerous challenges. Patients usually present with an advanced progression of their disease process. Furthermore, these clinical settings may see a shortage of specialties such as plastics and reconstructive services. Also, small acute care hospitals are under pressure to reduce a patient's length of stay and minimize trips to the operating room. My experience with NPWTi-d started in 2013. Since that time, I have witnessed outstanding patient outcomes ranging from a decrease in length of stays, rapid progression to the next level of care and reduction of trips to the operating room.
