Kenji Ando’s distinguished 40-year career with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) features a variety of global assignments with a focus on developing leading edge energy technologies to meet the needs of growing economies and evolving demands for clean and affordable power. Ando is currently Senior Executive Vice President of MHI and President and CEO of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS), an energy joint-venture established in 2014 by MHI and Hitachi. Prior to taking on the leadership role at MHPS, he was President and CEO of MHI America Inc., overseeing the company’s regional operations in North America from New York and Houston. At MHPS, Ando is leading the development of efficient gas and steam turbines, as well as cutting edge clean coal technologies like Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) systems. He is responsible for the rollout of MHPS-TOMONI, a revolutionary digital solutions platform that enables energy producers to optimize power plant performance. Ando is prioritizing growth opportunities for the MHPS and MHI global networks. He began his career with MHI in 1976 as an engineer at the Takasago Machinery Works. During the next 20 years, Ando was actively involved in the development of advanced nuclear, fossil fuel and gas turbine power plants. In 1997, he assumed a management role at MHI’s design engineering plant. In 2003, Ando returned to the Takasago Machinery Works to oversee the gas turbine service business and was named Deputy Head of the facility in 2006. He became Head of Takasago in 2010 and two years later he joined MHI Power Systems as Deputy Head of the Power Systems Division. In 2013, Ando was named Senior Vice President and Deputy Head at MHI’s Energy & Environment business. Ando earned his Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tokyo University in 1976. In his leisure time he enjoys reading and walking.
