Sheldon Drobot, Ph.D., MBA, is the Principal, Noble Causes for Harris Space & Intelligence. I am charged with strategic planning and new business development. In my role, I have developed a new program to modernize developing world weather services, creating the strategic business plan, connecting with funding authorities, and organizing a core international team to respond to future tenders. I’ve also started new programs in hyperspectral remote sensing, synthetic aperture radar, and smart cities. To accomplish these efforts, I provided the scientific leadership and advocacy to launch the programs, developed the strategic plans for execution, secured and managed budgets, coordinated strategies for initial and follow-up engagements with new sponsors, and supported proposal development. Prior to joining Harris in 2015, I was the Deputy Director for the Weather Systems and Assessment Program (WSAP) within the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Research Applications Lab (RAL). I led the surface transportation and weather program and assisted in running the solar renewable energy program. Some of my previous research foci include developing a solar energy forecast decision support system; determining the viability of using vehicles as mobile weather collection platforms (which he presented at TEDx Boulder:http://tedxboulder.com/videos/the-promise-of-connected-vehicles); and creating polar climate data records for snow melt onset, sea ice age, and clouds. I also previously served as a Program Officer at the National Academies, working on several studies, including the BASC report “Climate Data Records from Environmental Satellites” and the PRB report “A Vision for the International Polar Year 2007-2008”.
