Major General Baker is a 1985 graduate of Norwich University where he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in Armor. He served his initial assignment with the 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment from 1985 to 1989. In 1997, he joined the 1st Armored Division in Bad Kreuznach, Germany and deployed to Bosnia to serve as the Deputy G-6 for the Division and Task Force Eagle. In 1998, Major General Baker served as the Executive Officer for the Division’s 141st Signal Battalion. Major General Baker finished his tour with the Division as the Secretary of the General Staff from 1999-2000. Major General Baker was assigned to United States Central Command (CENTCOM) in July 2000, where he served as the Executive Officer to the J6, and then Officer in Charge of CENTCOM’s Forward Deployed Theater C4ISRS2 Control Center in Bahrain. In June 2003, Major General Baker assumed command of the 124th Signal Battalion, 4th Infantry Division (M) in Tikrit, Iraq during OIF 1. In December 2004, he activated the Special Troops Battalion (STB), 4th Infantry Division (M), and deployed the Battalion to Baghdad, Iraq in support of OIF 05-07. In July 2007, Major General Baker assumed command of the 35th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade (TTSB) at Fort Gordon, Georgia. In June 2010, he was assigned as Chief, Commander’s Initiatives Group (CIG), United States Army Forces Command (FORSCOM), Fort McPherson, Georgia. From July 2011 until June 2014, Major General Baker served as the Director of Command and Control, Communications and Computer Systems, J6, United States Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.
