Stephen D. Dingbaum has more than 40 years of governmental auditing experience. He became the Assistant Inspector General for Audit at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in August 2016. As the Assistant Inspector General, he directs audits and evaluations to assess the management and conduct of WMATA programs and operations and oversees the annual audit of WMATA’s financial statements. Prior to joining WMATA, Mr. Dingbaum was the Assistant Inspector General for Audit at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (2000 – 2016). His Federal service also included positions at the U.S. Department of State Office of Inspector General (1984 – 2000) and the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (1976 – 1984). Mr. Dingbaum is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Virginia, is Certified in Financial Forensics, and is a Certified Fraud Examiner. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in accounting and economics from the University of Northern Iowa, a Bachelor of Arts in German from the University of Maryland, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. Mr. Dingbaum is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He was recent a member (2000 – 2016) of the Federal Audit Executive Committee and served on the Information Technology Subcommittee. He was also a former member (2005 – 2011) of the Accounting and Auditing Policy Committee of the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board.
