Dr. Capasso is an advanced practice nurse with 30 years of experience. Currently, she is the Clinical Nurse Specialist for Wound Healing in the Institute for Patient Care, at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA where she oversees prevention and treatment of pressure injuries and wounds of various etiologies. She is the Co-Lead of a Patient Care Services’ initiative, “Advancing Evidence-Based Practice.” Her other roles include Nurse Scientist in the Munn Center for Nursing Research, co-founder, former co-director and nurse practitioner in the Massachusetts General Hospital Wound Care Center. She has faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School, MGH Institute of Health Professions, and Boston College. Her program of research focuses on metrics of wound healing and comparison of the effectiveness of selected strategies in wound prevention and healing. She has been involved in the NPUAP as a member of two of the small working groups charged with the preparing the 2014 International Guidelines for Prevention and Treatment of Pressure Ulcers. She also was the recipient of a scholarship intended to infuse clinical expertise into NPUAP’s Support Surfaces Standard Initiative (S3I). Recently, she was elected to the Board of Directors of the NPUAP for a three-year term, beginning in January, 2018 – an honor about which she is quite delighted!
