Mr. Kimball is the Chief Technology Officer of Ciena Government Solutions where he is responsible for technology direction and product positioning for sales of Ciena optical networking products in the Department of Defense, civilian government, and the research and education market. Mr. Kimball’s current focus is on the modernization of government networks with 100G transport, analysis of the impact of SDN in the government space, protecting sensitive data with enhanced network security, and understanding the energy and environmental impacts of the evolution of optical transport and switching technologies. Mr. Kimball is a frequent speaker in the area of network security and cyber awareness and has authored numerous papers in this area. Prior to joining Ciena, Mr. Kimball held positions with the Defense Information Systems Agency, MITRE, and AT&T Bell Laboratories where he was a subject matter expert and engineering manager in transmission engineering for both submarine and terrestrial optical networks. He has a background in nonlinear optics and modeling of complex optical systems.
