Warren Bates joined CASIS in March 2012 and currently serves as the Director of Portfolio Management. In this position, Bates directs and manages the efforts necessary for carrying out research opportunities within the CASIS science portfolio approved by the Board of Directors. These efforts include formal solicitation development, scientific and economic analyses, and overall management of the science portfolio. Warren also manages the CASIS evaluation process, which aids in the selection and validation of research pathways, as well as the evaluation and prioritization of solicited and unsolicited research proposals. Prior to joining CASIS, Bates worked in the private equity and financial services industries. He most recently worked with Sentinel Capital Partners, a private equity firm based in New York City, with $1.25 billion of capital under management. At Sentinel, he helped to evaluate, execute, and manage investments in the United States and Canada, in a wide range of industries including aerospace and defense, business services, consumer products and services, distribution, food and restaurants, franchising, healthcare, and manufacturing. Preceding working at Sentinel, Bates worked in the Global Power and Utilities Group at Morgan Stanley as an investment banker, where he helped advise domestic and foreign corporations on a variety of strategic and financing opportunities. Bates received his B.S. degree from MIT in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Finance.
