Paul Whitaker is the Director of Strategy at Kongsberg Satellite Services, commonly referred to as KSAT. KSAT is well-known for its focus on rapid delivery of information from a large portfolio of satellite sources; services they have been providing to regulators and global companies for over twenty years. From uniquely positioned antennas on the remote island of Svalbard, they are able to monitor the maritime environment anywhere in the world, using an unprecedented number of commercial satellites – both radar and optical. KSAT is a global leader in providing ground station network services including Telemetry, Tracking and Commanding (TT&C) and Data Acquisition services, with experience dating back to 1967. With a large number of sites and over 100 antennas available, KSAT provides the very high reliability that is needed for critical support of satellite operations. KSAT currently handles in excess of 30,000 satellite passes per month, including over 10,000 per month in support of the newer generation of smaller satellites. Mr. Whitaker holds Masters Degrees in Hydrology as well as Business Administration. He spent ten years as a management consultant before joining KSAT, and is now charged with a range of business development activities around the world, raising awareness of satellite capabilities to provide services in everything from oil spill detection to vessel tracking to monitoring ice conditions. He was born and raised in the United States but has lived in Norway for the past seven years.
