Melonie Calderon
Business Committee Member
San Manuel Band of Mission Indians

Melonie Calderon is a second-term member of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Business Committee, elected in 2015. The Business Committee is the seven-member body that oversees the day-to-day operations of the tribal government. Prior to her election, Calderon served on the tribe’s Investment Board, held appointed positions on the Election Committee and served as a delegate for the Riverside San Bernardino County Indian Health Inc., a non-profit which provides medical services to Native Americans and their families within the Inland region. Appointed to the Election Committee at the age of 23, Melonie worked directly with the Tribe’s General Council as part of the election system over a span of 10 years. She then served on the Investment Board which sets long term fiduciary policy and worked within her term to establish a trust to benefit tribal minors. Melonie brings to the Business Committee, her focus on building ever greater participation among tribal members of all generations in the opportunities presented by the development of the tribal government and its businesses. Having herself grown up in a period of rapid economic and social development, Melonie is focused on furthering the tribe’s advancement through new educational initiatives, youth internship programs and digital communications platforms to prepare the Tribe for the future. As a mother of two children, Calderon has benefited from the positive impacts that tribal government programs are making in the lives of tribal members; particularly among children enrolled in San Manuel Education tutoring and Serrano Indian language programs. Inspired by these experiences and her own current studies in marketing and management, Melonie seeks to kindle a lifelong passion for learning and educational attainment within the San Manuel Community.
