graduate student University of the State of Minas Gerais (Brazil)
Hiago Vasconcelos and Luis Felipe Marinho, 23 years old. Brazil. Mining Engineering students at the University of the State of Minas Gerais (Brazil) since 2011. During 2014 and 2015, attended two semesters˜of Mining Engineering˜at the University of Kentucky˜through the Brazilian Scientific Mobility Program, sponsored by the Federal government of Brazil (Capes/CNPq). Attended "Explosives and Blasting" course held by the UK Departament of Mining Engineering. By the end of the program, performed a research about stemming performance optimization by the application of a non-Newtonian fluid as a stemming material. Directed by Dr. Braden Lusk (ISEE University of Kentucky Chapter Student Advisor) and supported by the PhD candidates Josh Calnan and Paul Sainato, Vasconcelos and Marinho got efficient results regarding to maximization of strain propagation and ground vibration, and reduction of air overpressure using the referred material as a stemming structure.
