Following an early career in mining machinery, Kent and his father founded Industrial Scientific Corp. in 1985. As President and CEO until 2010 when his son, Justin, became CEO, Kent led ISC to become a worldwide leader in safety instrumentation and predictive analytics. Kent was elected to the National Safety Council’s Board of Directors in 2007 and served until 2018. He was Chairman of the Board from 2010 – 2014 during which NSC was the first organization to document and expose the opioid crisis. He also advocated to eliminate fatalities in the workplace and lobbied against distracted driving. Laws against distracted driving were passed in 7 states during his term. Kent believes robotics should be developed to perform tasks that are dangerous and unhealthy for humans. In 2014, he co-founded Discovery Robotics Corp. for that express purpose and continues to serve as its President and CEO. Industrial Scientific, the National Safety Council, Discovery Robotics and the McElhattan Foundation are all committed to eliminating death on the job by 2050. We hope you will join us.
