Ms. Linda Newton is currently involved in volunteer work in various capacities. She is serving as Chairperson and Board Member for the AFCEA Hawaii Educational Foundation, Board Member for the Honolulu Navy League, and speaker for numerous panels in Hawaii on government, business and women’s issues. From June 2002 to May 2015, Ms. Newton was the Executive Director for Communications and Information Systems, and Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Commander, US Pacific Fleet (COMPACFLT). As the Executive Director and CIO, Ms. Newton was responsible for ensuring operational C4I capability for over 140,000 people in all afloat and ashore commands in the U.S. Pacific Fleet. As the CIO, she was actively engaged in strategic C4I and Information Technology (IT) initiatives within the Department of the Navy, the US Pacific Command and the US Pacific Fleet. Ms. Newton was selected for appointment to the Senior Executive Service (SES) in June 1997 and had over 32 years of civilian service with the Department of the Navy. Ms. Newton began her federal career in 1983 as a Presidential Management Intern (now Fellow) based at the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). Developmental assignments included details in the NAVSEA Operations and Shipbuilding budget offices, the Navy Comptroller's Office, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Senate Appropriations Committee, Defense Subcommittee. Ms. Newton moved to the Navy Comptroller's Office in March 1988. Ms. Newton assumed the position of Deputy Fleet Comptroller for the Pacific Fleet in August 1993. Ms. Newton was selected as a member of the Senior Executive Service in 1997. From June 1997 through October 2002, she served as the Executive Director for Planning and Resources. Ms. Newton has received numerous performance and special awards over her career; the Presidential Meritorious Rank Award, the Department of the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award and the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award.
