Mark Buckner

Dr. Mark A. Buckner is Senior Research Scientist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Leader of the Power and Energy System Group (P&ES). He has over 25 years of experience specializing in signal processing, machine learning and computational intelligence. Prior to becoming the P&ES group leader he served as director of the Cognitive Radio Program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory where he lead a team of innovative scientists and engineers applying and integrating software radio, sensors, signal processing and computational intelligence to address both government and commercial needs to enhance U.S. national security. He is principle investigator of (1) the Continuous Data-Driven Model Development Framework project, (2) the Grid Self-Aware Elastic Extensible Resiliency (Grid-SEER) project, and (4) a recent Laboratory Directed R&D effort called “Distributed Enterprise-Level cyber-PHysical Intelligence (DELPHI),” focusing on enhancing grid resiliency via persistent, enterprise level, cyber-physical situational awareness of threats including GPS spoofing/jamming, wireless attacks, and MALWARE injection. Dr. Buckner holds a BA in physics and psychology from Carson-Newman College and an MS and PhD in nuclear engineering/applied artificial intelligence from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
