Chief Sargent retired in 2005 as a Division Chief and commanding officer of the special operations division, as well as the B shift city wide tour commander for Virginia Beach Fire and Rescue. I served as a VATF-2 FEMA US&R Task Force Leader, and the White IST Operations Branch Chief commanding night operations at the Oklahoma City Murrah Building, The World Trade Center Collapse, the Atlanta and Salt Lake Olympics, G-8 and dozens of other operations.  I have written two books for PennWell, the bestselling Buddy to Boss Effective Fire Service Leadership, now in its 2nd Edition and Confined Space Entry and Rescue Operations  I served in a number of positions within the Department including firefighter, company officer, Training Captain, Operational Battalion, PIO, Homeland Security Coordinator and Division Chief. I have lectured nationally and internationally and written over 60 articles for professional journals After retirement I worked for the Department of State, Diplomatic Security Services in the Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program I then went to work for another government organization and served three tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan I returned to the US in 2010 and attended Eastern Virginia Medical School, receiving a Masters as a Physician Assistant and now work full time Emergency Medicine. I also work for a high-end security company providing armed personal protection as well as concierge and protective medicine for very high end clients. I continue to lecture and write.
