Florida Department of Economic Opportunity

Cody Phillips is an Economist with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Bureau of Workforce Statistics and Economic Research (WSER). Cody first became interested in Florida’s workforce and economic development while working on his capstone project at Florida State University, where he received his Master’s degree in Applied Economics. His team research project, “Powering Florida’s Economic Development,” estimated the economic impact of a new job in Florida and the share of that impact between state and local governments. In 2017, he began his career at DEO as a Research Associate working with the Statistical Programs unit, analyzing labor force estimates and producing monthly reports highlighting Florida’s workforce. In 2018, he was promoted to the Economic Research and Analysis unit, focusing on both long-term research projects and short-term data analysis requests. Currently, Cody is a lead developer on WSER’s new data delivery system where he develops interactive dashboards using data visualization software.
