Charles "Chuck" Ryan
Deputy Chief of Special Operations



Chuck is a 22 year veteran with the Fairfax County (VA) Fire and Rescue Department and currently serves as the deputy chief of special operations which encompasses the hazardous materials response team, technical rescue operations team, heavy rail and Metrorail response program, marine unit, and the urban search and rescue team (Virginia Task Force One). He is a 10-year member of Virginia Task Force One and serves in the primary role of a task force leader, with a secondary role as plans manager. He received a bachelor's in political science from Siena College (NY) and a juris doctor from Pepperdine University (CA) School of Law. He is an adjunct professor at the Northern Virginia Community College, and a licensed attorney in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Colorado. Chuck is a regular presenter at various fire service conferences such as FDIC International and Fire Rescue International on various topics related to fire department operations, officer development, and leadership. He is an instructor in the command and control curriculum at the National Fire Academy.
