Blasting Analysis International, Inc.


R. Frank Chiappetta has been the president and explosives applications engineer for the last 27 years with Blasting Analysis International, Inc. (BAI). BAI is an independent international consulting group out of Allentown, Penn., specializing in custom blast designs, blast audits, vibration/airblast controls, blast damage inspections, electronic detonator applications, presplitting and on-site training, spanning all 50 states and over 25 countries. Such projects included the first major expansion and deepening of the Panama Canal. Frank has a MSc. degree in Mining Engineering from Queen?s University, Canada with a specialty in explosives applications. In his 41-year career, Frank has worked for Inco Metals (now Vale), Iron Ore Company of Canada, Queen?s University, and the Atlas Powder Company (now Orica). Currently, Frank is the principle blasting consultant to many mining and explosive companies around the world. He was one of four authors for the textbook entitled Explosives and Rock Blasting, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the International Society of Explosives Engineers in 1990 for his outstanding technical contribution to the explosives and mining industries.
