David Hecker is Group General Counsel-Strategic Resolutions at Kiewit Corporation, where he has worked since 2003. Founded in 1884, Kiewit is one of the largest construction, engineering, and mining companies in North America. Kiewit has offices in the United States, Canada, and Mexico and in 2022 had combined revenues of over $14 billion. Following a variety of assignments within Kiewit’s Legal Department, David assumed his current role in 2017. His present responsibilities require him to direct and manage all claims development, litigation (including insured matters), and government investigations involving Kiewit entities. He oversees a team of elite lawyers and paralegals as well as other internal resources, outside counsel and consulting experts on technical issues, construction claims, scheduling, and accounting/damages. He has been “in the trenches” in the successful resolution of nearly a dozen construction claims valued in excess of $100 million. In the last several years, he has overseen recoveries and through mediation, arbitration, or trial well in excess of $1.5 billion. Prior to starting at Kiewit, Mr. Hecker was in private practice for 14 years as a litigator with focus on issues in the construction industry. During that period, he was a partner at Woods & Aitken LLP and Kutak Rock LLP. Mr. Hecker is active in the community, at various times serving on the boards of non-profits, Voices for Children in Nebraska, Opera Omaha, Lauritzen Gardens. Mr. Hecker earned his bachelor’s degree and his JD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
