Jeff is a retired deputy chief of the Charlotte, NC Fire Department where he served for 33 years, of which he spent 14 years as the deputy chief over the communications, training, emergency management/homeland security and the special operations divisions. Jeff served as the UASI point of contact for the Charlotte UASI and has spoken nationally and internationally on disaster and homeland security issues. He serves on three federal committees overseeing national standards for homeland security issues. He served as the deputy operations chief of the 2012 Democratic National Convention and has deployed to nine federal disasters as a member of incident management teams. Jeff is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School with a master's degree in homeland defense and national security. He retired from the Charlotte Fire Department in 2015 and is now the Assistant Director of the Research and Data Analysis Center for the International Association of Fire Chiefs. In this role, Jeff oversees all research projects and firefighter health and safety initiatives; as well as the IAFC's National Public Safety GIS Viewer Project - a national platform for sharing GIS data to fire departments for planning and situational awareness.
