Lance Thornswood is an eCommerce, mobile & marketing executive, an entrepreneur and creative innovator—with more than 20 years’ experience building, growing and reinventing retail businesses. After co-founding one of the first digital agencies, in the ‘90s, Lance led the 1999 design and launch of Target.com, their first foray into e-commerce. For the next 12 years, he led Target into email marketing, social media, digital in-store, mobile, content marketing, and more. In 2014, he joined JCPenney as Sr Director of Omnichannel to help lead the company’s turnaround. As the leader of mobile, user experience and JCPenney’s innovation studio he’s been in the vanguard of seismic changes at the company. And 2 years in, their turnaround appears to be well on track. Lance has marketed consumer brands ranging from feature films to fertilizer. But his true passion is retail — with clients like L.L. Bean, Marshall Field’s, Sears, Dayton’s, Hudson’s, Mervyn’s, Kmart, Wilson’s Leather, Verizon and Apple. Also an avid explorer, Lance has traveled (and shopped!) every continent except Antarctica, and he is delighted to call San Francisco home.
