Madelyn Alfano literally grew up in the food service industry. As a child, she worked in her parents’ Italian specialty market in Brentwood and later opened her first restaurant in Sherman Oaks named Maria’s after her mother. Alfano now has ten restaurants throughout Southern California and employees nearly 500 people. Maria’s Italian Kitchen is considered one of the leading privately owned restaurant chains in California. Alfano is deeply involved with and sits on the boards of numerous charities and nonprofit organizations, which include Shane’s Inspiration and the Max Reitzin Memorial Fund. Alfano is a past president of the National Association of Women Business Owners – Los Angeles Chapter (NAWBO-LA) as well as an active member of the California Restaurant Association (CRA). She was awarded the CEO of the Year Awards at the Annual Women Making a Difference in 2007 by the Los Angeles Business Journal for her skill as a businesswoman and her philanthropic leadership in the community.
