Leslie Lyons
Professor of Comparative Medicine
University of Missouri
Lyons received her master’s degree and doctorate in human genetics from the University of Pittsburgh. For her post-doctoral career in comparative genetics, she worked at the National Cancer Institute, where she helped organized aspects of the cat genome project. Subsequently, she joined the University of California to further pursue genetic research in companion animals, with major focus on the genetics of the domestic cat. Lyons is still a professor emerita with the University of California. Now she also serves as a professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri, where she launched the 99 Lives Cat Genome Sequencing Inititative, a public effort to enhance genomic resources for the cat.
