Jim Brinton is a professional, selfless and exemplary member of our industry. A 40-year veteran, he started in 1976 while in high school with only one vending machine, and built his business into one of the Northwest’s largest independently owned full-time vending operations. In 2001, he opened Vending Equipment Center, a vending machine distribution company selling new and used vending equipment to the industry. Brinton’s professional accomplishments are numerous. He is currently the 2008 NAMA Chairman of the Board, the 2005 Industry Person of the year, a past president and board member of the Northwest Automatic Vending Association (NAVA), a recipient of the William “Bill” Herbord Award for his outstanding contributions to NAVA. He has served as chairman of NAVA’s Washington Legislative Fund since 1990, and is the council’s liaison for their Washington lobbyist, along with organizing the fund-raising for the Washington PAC. His activities in NAMA include serving as general convention chairman for the 1998 Western Expo, a member of the Education and Training Committee, and a teacher of Vending 101 at the NAMA expos since 1997. For 10 years during his career he found time to work for the Seattle Police Department. Brinton is an advisory board member of the Cloverpark Vocational Institute in Tacoma. He is past president and board member of Exchange Club of Highline, a local community service organization. When asked what his biggest career challenge has been, he says people. “Even though technology has helped us advance our industry, we still depend on a basic blue-collar work force to create most of our revenue. The work ethic, culture and life style desires of this workforce has definitely changed. We need to create a new acceptable environment in our industry for this new-age workforce,” Brinton says.
