Richard Smith, a former Biological Scientist at the University of Florida and author of foundational scientific research regarding hop production in Florida, has proven significant dedication towards expanding our shared knowledge in crop production making those areas more sustainable, more productive and with less environmental impact. As Founder and CEO of Florida Hops, LLC based in Orlando, he has helped develop and introduce new crops, production techniques, and processing strategies enhancing Florida agriculture's competitiveness through alternative crops by creating value-added products for use in Florida's booming craft beer industry. He has served as the Agriculture and Natural Resources Chair for the Florida Academy of Sciences, served as a board member for the Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association Action Chapter and volunteered as an Orange County Master Gardener. He's been married for 15 years and is the father of two future scientists.
