George Minter is regional vice president for external affairs and environmental strategy for SoCalGas, the nation’s largest gas utility. He is responsible for public affairs, community relations, communications, public policy, and energy and environmental affairs functions. Minter is a long-time public policy professional specializing in energy and environmental matters, policy development, communications, and political advocacy. Prior to his career at SoCalGas, Minter was a political consultant handling local, state, and national political campaigns, responsible for strategy development, campaign management, and television and radio production. Minter has served as a board member of numerous civic associations and community organizations. He was one of the founders of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy, a federal energy trade association; and of the California CCS Coalition, a statewide energy advocacy organization. He currently serves as co-chair of the Energy, Water & Environmental Sustainability Council of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce; is a member of the Land Use (GLUE) Council for So Cal Association of Governments (SCAG); and is a member of the Advisory Boards of the California Alternative Fuel Vehicle Coalition of the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), and of Water Education for Latino Leaders (WELL). Minter has been the recipient of several awards and honors, and has been a regular speaker at state and national conferences on energy and environmental policy. He recently was awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award from the US Council on Service and Civic Participation. He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.
