Nora Leyland
Nora Leyland began her union career as a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America, and as a volunteer with 9to5, National Organization for Working Women. Ms. Leyland is a partner in the law firm of Sherman Dunn, which acts as General Counsel to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU), and as union Counsel to the electrical training ALLIANCE. Ms. Leyland has extensive experience representing the firm’s clients in federal appellate courts and before the National Labor Relations Board. She has also represented military personnel on a variety of matters, and is a recognized authority on veterans’ employment and reemployment rights in the construction industry. Ms. Leyland has advocated for worker safety and protection before the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and was the legal representative for construction unions on committees of the National Institute for Building Sciences responsible for drafting Model Guide Specifications on asbestos and lead. Martindale-Hubbell has awarded Ms. Leyland its highest attorney rating, the AV rating.
