James Crute
President and Head Brewer, Lightning Brewery



James Crute has been awarded BS ( State University of New York), MS and Ph.D. (University of Rochester) degrees in Biochemistry. Following that he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Biochemistry Department at Stanford University. After a 20+ year career in academics and the pharmaceutical industry that focused on DNA replication and the analysis of underlying mechanisms that promote protein-protein interactions, he decided to introduce the broader concept of Science to the beer trade. For over a decade he has been the main owner and operator of the Lightning Brewery located in San Diego County, CA. During this time the Lightning Brewery has garnered over 40 nationally recognized awards and ribbons, including the best of show award at the California State Fair in 2012.
