Brendan Johnson is a partner at Robins Kaplan LLP. He is Co-Chair of their American Indian Law and Policy Group as well as the Government and Internal Investigations Group. While serving as the United States Attorney for the District of South Dakota, Mr. Johnson was selected by the Attorney General of the United States to chair the Department of Justice’s Native American Issues Subcommittee and to serve on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee. When summarizing the impact of Mr. Johnson’s career with the Justice Department, former Attorney General Holder stated that, “As a lawyer and as a leader, Brendan has set a standard of excellence that will not soon be surpassed. Particularly with regard to public safety challenges on tribal lands, he has served as a key advisor to senior Justice Department officials-including me.” Mr. Johnson joined Robins Kaplan LLP in 2015 with his law partner Tim Purdon, who was the United States Attorney in North Dakota. Together, they seek to rewrite the odds for Tribes engaged in high stakes litigation. They presently represent Tribes across the country on a variety of issues, including disputes with state governments and the federal government. They also co-chair their law firm's government and internal investigation group and are involved in financial litigation matters. Mr. Johnson earned a J.D. from University of Virginia School of Law, (2001) and a B.S. from University of South Dakota (1998).
