Ken Adams is the president of the association. He graduated as a civil engineer from the University of London in the UK, and after working for several years in the UK and New Zealand, moved to Canada where he has spent over 40 years in the electricity industry. His last position at Manitoba Hydro was senior vice president for power supply. In this role he was responsible for all aspects of the planning, construction, operations and marketing of a hydro system of over 5000 MW and its associated HVdc transmission system. Ken was an active participant in the Canadian Electricity Association and the Canadian Hydropower Association. He has served on the Conference Board of Canada's Environmental Management Council, various committees of the former Northern American Electricity Reliability Council and the relevant regional organisations. He was the first chair of both the Wuskwatim Power Limited Partnership and the Keeyask Hydropower Limited Partnership, co-operative hydro developments between Manitoba Hydro and various local indigenous peoples, and Chair of the Board of Teshmont Consultants, a consulting engineering company specialising in high-voltage transmission. He has also spent several years on the faculty of engineering at the University of Manitoba. Ken is currently active as a consultant as the Principal of Ken Adams and Associates. He was elected as an IHA Board member in 2005 and then as a vice president in 2007. He was re-elected as a vice president in 2009 and 2011, and elected as president in 2013.
