Following three years of prospective data collection by hospital WOC RNs, IAD incidence was rising while admission prevalence was stable. We had many IAD prevention tools available for the staff, but several went unutilized and the WOC RNs were concerned IAD was confused with other types of dermal injury. This was an opportunity for Mr. Gates to use available data to combine research (the GLOBIAD) and best practice to drive a clinical improvement.
