Since 1991, Janet Smith has served the EMS industry as an author, speaker, television producer and owner of her EMS consulting firm specializing in new business development, referral marketing, PR counseling, grant writing and TV/video production. As such, Smith has served as chairperson, staff and/or member for the American Ambulance Association (AAA), California Ambulance Association (CAA) and Ambulance Owners Association of Orange County, CA developing white papers, association communications, public affairs presentations and manuals. Smith is a frequent EMS conference speaker and video producer/director/screenwriter. Smith has lobbied the US Congress and the California and Nevada legislatures. In 2003, Smith joined the MedTrans executive team and communicated corporate culture and image for a new industry consolidator; preforming public relations, investor relations, crisis communications and public affairs strategy for corporate and 33 new acquisition companies. Previous to her work at MedTrans, Janet served as general manager for Diamond Ambulance (Short-time consulting/employment agreement). Smith served as the community relations director/paramedic for Mercy Medical Services in Las Vegas, NV for 13 years. Janet began her EMS career in 1974 as a volunteer ambulance attendant for the Elko County Fire District. Smith owns Close Call® (injury and illness prevention TV series) and No Panic Please! an EMS awareness program for school-age children. Her firm has been awarded the National Association of Women Business Owners- Signature Award (2011), Best Video for an Internal Audience- Public Relations Society of America SD (2010), Best Illness and Injury Prevention Program- Close Call TV Series-Nicolas Rosecrans Foundation, Biggest Bang for the Buck Award- America Corporate Video Awards (1996), President’s Award- AAA (1994), the Dare to Care Award (Clark County NV, DUI Task Force-1988), Women of Achievement Award- Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce(1990).
