Dr. Kaeppler is a geneticist, plant breeder, and instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research team has worked primarily on maize including work on somaclonal variation, epigenetics, abiotic stress tolerance with a focus on roots, seed development and composition, lignocellulosic biofuel production, and GxE. His team has characterized genomic variation among diverse maize lines and connected phenotypic and genomic information to uncover basic biological processes. An overall goal has been to design strategies, and facilitate processes, to translate basic research into useful outcomes. He is a member of the Genomes to Fields Executive Committee, and participant in the maize GxE consortium.
