Karen J. Dean, M. A. has worked at the United States Patent and Trademark Office since November 2009, and in 2016 created and implemented the Office of the Ombudsman. Prior to joining USPTO, she worked as a Senior Employee and Labor Relations Specialist in a variety of federal agencies. Before working for the U.S. government, Karen served in the U.S. Air Force as a SERE Instructor. Karen is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership, received her M.A in Conflict Resolution, Abilene Christian University, and her B.A. General Management and Human Resource Management, Eastern Washington University. In 2014, she participated in a study abroad program that explored conflicts, sectarianism, and past and current peace efforts in Northern Ireland. Karen also received the 2017 Leadership in Action Award from the Partnership for Public Service and Leadership Alumni Board. Karen serves as the 2018 Chair, Conflict Management Consortium.
