Rex Strickland
Rex Strickland is a 25 year veteran of Fairfax County (VA) Fire and Rescue Department and currently serves as an operational battalion chief. Rex served most of his career within special operations and spent over 18 years on the technical rescue team. Rex also served as a lead structural collapse technician instructor, technical search specialist, and planning chief for the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue team based in Fairfax. He has been deployed on numerous domestic and international missions from the embassy bombing in Kenya to earthquakes in Turkey and Taiwan; he was the lead USAR operations chief in the Haiti disaster and earthquake in Japan. Rex is fire ground survival instructor for the International Association of Firefighters, and has instructed nationally and internationally on conventional forcible entry and on the dangers of perceptual blindness on the fireground with his Silverback Size-Up program. Rex has served on a number of committees at all levels to include NFPA and the technical writing group for the Northern Virginia operating manuals.
