Matthew Johnston serves as the Chief Executive Officer of HM.CLAUSE as well as chairman of the Global Strategy Team where he is responsible for setting the strategic vision of the company and defining global business objectives. From 2008 until his appointment as CEO in 2012, Mr. Johnston served as deputy CEO where he helped manage the successful integration of HARRIS MORAN and CLAUSE, two legacy brands owned by parent company, Limagrain, into the Business Unit HM.CLAUSE. The result is a forward-thinking, global seed company with more than 200 years of history and dedication to the industry. Mr. Johnston’s first position with the company was as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, which he held from 2001-2003. Afterwards, Mr. Johnston spent five years as Chief Operating Officer at the Nurserymen’s Exchange in California and Florida. Prior to that, Mr. Johnston held regional and global management positions with Seminis in California. He has roots in Florida and spent his earliest professional years as a General Manager for his family’s citrus business. Prior to earning his MBA at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Mr. Johnston received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Wyoming. He is also a graduate of the Wedgeworth Leadership Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources certificate program at the University of Florida. He is currently based out of the company’s European headquarters in Portes-les-Valence, France.
