Fire Chief



Richie has 37 years of experience in the fire and EMS service. He has served in every career rank from firefighter/EMT to fire chief. He is presently the fire chief of the Fairfax County (VA) Fire and Rescue Department and formally served as the fire chief of the Montgomery County (MD) Fire and Rescue Department. He has been a member of the FEMA USAR Virginia Task Force 1 and USAR Maryland Task Force 1 teams since their inception and has been on numerous deployments including the Oklahoma City bombing, the 9/11 Pentagon terrorist attack and Hurricane Katrina. Chief Bowers has served on many local and regional advisory committees and has been a member of several firefighter line of duty death and significant injury investigation teams. He holds a bachelor's degree in fire service management and a master's degree certificate in human resource management from the University of Maryland University College.
