Debra L Fawcett PhD, RN is currently Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Eskenazi Health, Indianapolis, IN. Dr. Fawcett received her Associate Degree and her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Indiana University Kokomo, Kokomo, IN. She received Master’s Degree in Nursing from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. Dr. Fawcett received her PhD in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH. She has been a perioperative nurse for over 30 years serving in both leadership and staff positions. Dr. Fawcett focused her dissertation and subsequent research studies on pressure injuries, support surfaces and positioning in the operating room. Dr. Fawcett has worked as an independent consult for EHOB. Since that time she has authored several articles on various subjects, and has presented on pressure ulcers in the OR all over the world including Kenya and Oxford England. Dr Fawcett has served as a panel member for National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP). She has submitted a chapter on positioning the surgical patient for Alexander’s Care of the Patient in Surgery. Dr. Fawcett is a past member of the AORN Board of Directors and has served on various committees & task forces for AORN national and local. Dr. Fawcett is a member of the Association of Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) and has taken her expertise from the OR to present at Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) . In addition she is currently the liaison to the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel for AORN. She reviews research manuscripts as well as being the chair of the pressure ulcer task force for AORN. She has developed classes on perioperative education, pressure injuries, positioning, infection prevention and mentoring. In March of 2015 she received the Outstanding Achievement in Mentoring Award from AORN.
