James Hyslip is founder and owner of HyGround Engineering and has 30 years of experience in railroad and geotechnical engineering. His background includes front-line track maintenance supervision at the Consolidated rail Corporation (Conrail) as well as track substructure diagnostics as Conrail’s Engineer of Soil Mechanics. Jim was previously Vice President at Ernest T. Selig Inc. and VP of Engineering at Optram, Inc. Jim has combined his practical and academic experience to become one of the leading researchers and practitioners in the field of track geotechnology, and has been instrumental in the use and growth of ground penetrating radar (GPR) for railway track condition assessment. Dr. Hyslip has engineering degrees from Bucknell University, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Massachusetts (Amherst), and is registered in the USA as a Professional Engineer. He has authored or co-authored over 30 publications related to data analysis and track performance issues, and is co-author of the 2016 book Railway Geotechnics.
