Judge Stephanie Bowick was appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in July 2009. For the past 8 years, she has presided over Department 19 of the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, an Unlimited Civil Court (Independent Calendar). Previous judicial assignments include a Civil Trial Court. Prior to her appointment to the bench, Judge Bowick was an Assistant General Counsel for the Los Angeles Unified School District, where she provided in-house legal advice and handled civil litigation, administrative hearings, and appeals. Judge Bowick also served as a Senior Trial Counsel with the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office (Civil Litigation Division), where she was responsible for a significant volume of cases in both federal and state courts, and defended the City and County of San Francisco in a wide range of civil trials. In addition, Judge Bowick was a Litigation Associate with the law firm of Barrack, Rodos & Bacine in San Diego, focusing on complex securities and consumer fraud class action litigation. Judge Bowick is active with various legal organizations, including the Los Angeles County Bar Association (Executive Committee of the Litigation Section, Ex Officio). She also currently serves as a member of the Los Angeles Superior Court Bench And Bar Committee and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee. Judge Bowick received her Juris Doctor degree from Howard University School of Law and Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles.
