Martin Smirl has worked in the renewable sector for more than a decade in several key roles at various organizations. With a background in information and operational technologies Martin entered the industry by taking a role with SMA, a solar inverter manufacturer based in Germany as lead technical support engineer with a focus on software applications & micro-grid and stand-alone grid interactive inverter communications. After SMA, Martin worked for SunEdison where he was principal engineer for data acquisition -- all while in his primary role as Director of Global Renewable Operations. In his primary role, Martin led a team of 60 employees in five Control Centers which operated 3,500 wind and solar plants representing over 6.5GW of capacity around the world. Today Martin is employed by Terraform power, where he is responsible for control center operations, data acquisition and regulatory compliance.
