Ian Prowell has worked professionally in multiple engineering disciplines before working as a structural engineer in wind energy. He received his BS degree in Engineering from Harvey Mudd College and completed both his MS and PhD degrees in Structural Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Prowell’s PhD research focused on experimental and numerical research into the seismic behavior of wind turbines. He has worked in both onshore and offshore wind, solar, and other novel structures. In his current role at DNV GL he heads the North American structural group for civil engineering for large wind projects and contributes expertise internationally. He is active in owners engineering, independent engineering, construction oversight, litigation support, measurement, development and maintenance of national and international wind standards documents, among other aspects of projects in all stages from planning to repowering. His expertise includes structural design, soil-structure interaction, and physical measurement.
