Josué César Bastos is PhD student working as a Graduate Research Assistant within the Rail Transportation and Engineering Center (RailTEC) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). During his undergraduate studies, he was an exchange student at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for one year and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Brazilian institution Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. His current research focuses on the performance of concrete railroad crossties and fastening systems under worn and degraded conditions. He serves as a board member within the AREMA Student Chapter at UIUC and is an active student member of AREMA Committee 30 – Ties.
