Patrick Murphy enters his 21st season with the University of Alabama softball in 2019. Murphy started as an assistant coach in the very first years of the Alabama softball program and has now emerged as the face of a team that has grown under his leadership to become one of the most consistent successful programs in the nation. Murphy’s teams have made 20-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and have 11 Women’s College World Series berths in those years including a 2012 National Championship. In 2018, Murphy eclipsed the 1,000 win mark and has nearly an .800 career win percentage. Murphy got his coaching start as a Little League baseball head coach before taking over at Sumner High School where he took the team to the state championship game. Murphy broke into collegiate coaching at the University of Southwestern Louisiana as an assistant softball coach in 1992. He also spent time as head coach of the Independence Iowa high school baseball team & as interim head coach at Northwest Missouri State before joining the Crimson Tide.
