Hugh Thompson joined FRA’s Office of Research Development and Technology in 2009. He is currently FRA’s Program Manager for Track Support and Substructure Research, with a focus on Ballast related research, New and innovative technology platforms for FRAs Research vehicles, and composite tie Research. Hugh is also a member of AREMA Committees 2 & 30. Prior to joining FRA, Hugh spent a decade at the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Examiner and is also a registered Patent Agent. Hugh has a BS in Civil Engineering, is an honors graduate of Morgan State University, and has over 25 years of professional experience. Hugh is the father of three, Matthew, Marcell, Mari, and husband to Tawana.
