David Meisel is senior director of transportation and aviation services for Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). In his role, Meisel leads PG&E’s Transportation Services organization and its more than 420 employees where he manages a fleet of nearly 15,000 vehicles. His responsibilities include garage operations at 68 locations, fleet acquisition and disposition, fleet engineering, aircraft and helicopter operations, DOT regulatory compliance, and the fleet information technology organization. PG&E currently operates the largest alternative fuel fleet in the utility industry and one of the largest in the country. Meisel has more than 35 years of fleet and logistics experience and has held a variety of fleet management roles, including positions with regional, divisional, and national responsibilities. In addition to being a certified diesel mechanic, Meisel holds a BS in business administration from Central Michigan University and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. Meisel is a member of several industry organizations including the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA), the Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC), and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). He routinely provides expert witness testimony to political bodies and is currently a member of several industry, governmental, and educational advisory committees at both the state and national levels. He has utilized his technical skills to provide fleet-related training to emergency response organizations in his home state of Michigan. In addition, he has utilized his knowledge of Department of Transportation regulations to train hundreds of people over the years in the proper handling and transportation of hazardous materials. At PG&E, he is an active supporter of military veterans and has worked to develop a mechanic and fleet supervisor recruitment and training program designed specifically for returning soldiers.
