Tom Merrill




Tom is a 33-year veteran in the Snyder (NY) Fire Department, which is located in the suburbs Buffalo. He served 26 years as a department officer including 15 years in the chief officer ranks, and recently completed five years as chief of the department. Currently, Tom serves as a fire commissioner for the Snyder Fire District and is employed as a full time fire dispatcher for the Town of Amherst Fire Alarm Office. Tom has conducted various fire service presentations throughout the New York State area. His presentation "The Professional Volunteer Fire Department" is based on the series of articles he has written for Fire Engineering magazine regarding developing and maintaining a professional reputation in the volunteer fire service. Tom also hosts a regular series by the same name on Fire Engineering Blog Talk Radio.
