o Ricardo Carrera is an Automation Engineer in the Distribution Automation group at ComEd. In his role, Ricardo is responsible for developing and enhancing the device control schemes for the existing and new DA devices installed. Recently, he has been involved in the Bronzeville Community Microgrid project at ComEd. Being the DA lead for this project, he is responsible for developing protection schemes for all the DA devices that will live within the microgrid. Ricardo has designed a lab for testing the various unique protection schemes and fiber optics communication to ensure that the final solution will not impact the reliability needs of the customers served by the microgrid. The DA group has been Ricardo first role in his career with ComEd and within the electric utility industry. Before that, Ricardo received a BSEE from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana with a focus in Power and Energy Systems.
