Karen Koehler practices plaintiff personal injury and wrongful death law with Stritmatter Kessler Koehler Moore in its Seattle Office. Karen was President of the Washington State Association for Justice 2007/2008 and received its Trial Lawyer of the Year Award in 2005. Karen most recently was lead trial counsel in the four month long Ride the Ducks Aurora Bridge trial involving 40 plaintiffs that resulted in a $123 Million Dollar jury verdict in February 2019. She has tried many cases but this one was unlike any other. There were usually more than a dozen and a half defense counsel in the courtroom at all times with many more behind the scenes writing briefs and preparing witnesses. The presiding judge noted that this was by far the most visual trial she had ever presided over. Powerpoints were created for each witness. A field trip was taken to view the two involved vehicles at a warehouse. Mechanical parts, videotapes, audiotapes, and hundreds of pieces of evidence both illustrative and substantive were introduced. Karen is known for regularly trying cases and for publishing concurrent trial diaries. She is a member of ABOTA, and was an adjunct professor of trial advocacy at the University of Washington Law School for 7 years. She is coauthor of “Litigating Major Automobile Injury and Death” cases and “Litigating MIST” cases both published by Thomson West. Her DVDs on Preparing for Deposition and Preparing for the Defense Medical Exam are distributed nationally by Trial Guides.
